that was a great article i don't think i ever would have seen had you not posted this -- that was a fun read -- right up my alley. with an OFF TOPIC interview like this you get inside of a PERSONALITY'S head more so than when they are talking to someone who has THEIR MAIN occupation/gig in mind....

no slight against MR GANS, but in the last 8 months i heard BOBBY on a KQED GRATEFUL DEAD MARATHON, hosted by deahour's David Gans and i thought gand totally blew it in the interview. bobby sounded like he wanted to actually talk from the heart and candidly about Jerry and the band -- like he was literally about to launch into a juicy story and Gans pushed the conversation in some utterly mundane direction, like the business at hand, "So bobby, i heard you're playing at an Obama rally -- tell us about that...."

god dammit GANS! he was about to say something interesting you bbbbbbbbaaaaaaaaaaa.....

so even though there isn't so much dead content in this -- it is a very real, unpretentious, candid conversation with Bob Weir.

"I'm an environmentalist, which is why I don't drive my Corvette all that much. I wish I could, but my heart's not in it anymore, though I do expect to be buried in it. The funeral I imagine would be on a beach, with me in the car on a barge carrying a couple hundred gallon pounds of gasoline and a small case of dynamite and the barge sets out."

"And I want bare-breasted virgins firing flaming arrows at the barge," Weir chuckles. I play along -- you really want to blow up that beauty of a car? "Yeah, I want a fireball and that'll be that. But I have to rethink this because of environmental consequences. I don't want to kill a bunch of fish."

and like he says at the end, he has some stories to tell for sure.
